Union River's Big Bear Campground

As of 5/25/23 all reservations made after this date are non-refundable.  No refunds will be issued for any cancellations.  Camping season in the UP is only 4 1/2 months.  To make it fair and available for everyone, reserved sites are no longer refundable.   A reservation with a stay of 7 nights or less may be re-schduled within the same year with a minimum of 14 days notice. 

Additional Fees that you agree to be charged for -  You are responsible for the behavior of all person's registered in your party as well as your guest's behavior:

Only (1) tent or camper and (1) vehicle per site

1.  Extra tent on your site - $10 per night

2.  Extra adults at your site (over the age of 18) - $20 per person per night

3.  Extra vehicle - $10 per night

4.  All Visitors to your site - $10 per person per day.  Unauthorized entry or sneaking in others results in a double fee.  Unregistered people are considered trespassers and will be dealt with accordingly.

5.  Washing of vehicles, campers, atv's, bikes, motorcycles, etc - $50 per occurrence.

6.  Pets are limited to (2)  If you have more than (2) pets the fee is $5 per pet per day for each additional pet.

7.  Pets in shower building - $25 per occurrence.

8.  Damage or theft of campground property including but not limited to buildings, fences, trees, schrubs,bushes, plants, signs, posters, etc. - minimum charge - $50  (other amounts will be determined by the extent of the damage).

9.  EV's - If you are bringing an electric vehicle you are required to disclose this at check-in.  NO EV CHARGING.  Our power infrastructure is not designed for the constant load that EV charging requires.  If you plug in, the fee is $100.

10.  Theft or damage of fire ring - $200.  No moving of fire rings.

Campsites are for CAMPING ONLY -   NO PARTIES.   The campsites are limited to overnight camping only.  There is no extra parking.  

Check In / Check Out - Check in time is from 1 pm until 8 pm EST.  If you will be arriving after 8 pm you must call the campground for instructions.  Check-out is by 11 am EST.  

Late Arrivals – 8 PM cut-off  - Late check-ins are allowed but you must contact the park for instructions.  If you do not arrive by 8 PM or contact the park to let them know that you will be arriving after 8 PM, your site will NOT be held for you.  

Car Pass Required for entry  -  ALL vehicles must stop at the office upon arrival and PRIOR to setting up in your site to register your vehicle and receive a car pass.  Car pass must be displayed at all times.  

Only (1) tent or camper and (1) vehicle per site.   Each paid guest registration covers (1 ) Tent or camper per site and (1) vehicle per site.  Extra vehicles will need to be previously approved, pay the fee, and be shown where to park.  No extra tents without permission.  Backpacking groups, please call the campground to make arrangements. 

 Visitor Pass  -  All VISITORS must pay for a pass - $10 per person per day and must stop at the office to register PRIOR to entering the campground.  The Visitor Pass must be visible at all times and returned to the office upon leaving.  Visitors may not bring pets. We reserve the right to limit the number of people visiting a site. Visitors must depart by 9:00 pm EST.   Registered guests are responsible for ensuring their visitors are properly registered and that all campground rules are followed.  Unauthorized entry or sneaking in others will result in a double fee.  Unregistered people are considered trespassers and will be dealt with accordingly.

Quiet Time Policies  -  All campers shall conduct themselves in a manner that does not cause excessive noise or disturb and annoy others.  Quiet time is from 10PM to 8AM and IS ENFORCED.  This is NOT a party campground.  Our customers are travelers on vacation with the state park as their destination and are here to enjoy the 90 miles of hiking trails, old growth forests, numerrous waterfalls, and the tranquility that these surroundings provide. 

No moving of fire rings.

Firewood is for sale at the campground office.  No cutting of live, dead, or down trees.  Anyone who alters or damages any trees, plants or shrubs, etc, will be responsible for restitution at our discretion.

Absolutely NO Washing of vehicles, campers, bicycles, pets, etc.  -  Washing of RVs, vehicles, etc, is NOT permitted under ANY circumstances.  Disregarding this rule results in a $50 fee.

Pet Policies

1.  Excessive barking will not be tolerated.  

2.  Pets must be kept on a leash and under your control at all times.  This helps you, your pet, the other guests and their pets stay safe.

3.  Pets CANNOT BE LEFT ALONE AT YOUR SITE.   Incessant barking annoys the other guests.  

4.  Pets are not allowed in the office or the shower building. 

5.  Pets are limited to (2).  The fee for each additional pet is $5 per pet per day.

5.  Pet owners are required to pick up after their pets and dispose of all droppings in the dumpster.  There is also a pet station by the restrooms.  Bags and holders are for sale in the campground office.

6.  Due to Insurance Requirements, all pets in our park must be vaccinated. Please make sure your pet’s shots are up-to-date and have the paperwork available if needed.

7.  Pet owners are solely responsible for the actions of their pets including damages and/or injuries to others.  Damages will be assessed according to the infraction.

Speed Limit - Speed limit is 5 mph. This policy is to keep you, your children, and your pets safe. Be mindful of children entering and exiting the playground area.    

Restrooms  -  For the comfort of all our guests, restrooms are open 24/7 with exception of a temporary closing for cleaning daily at 11 AM, EST. We ask for your help in keeping the restrooms clean, please. NO smoking in the bathrooms.  NO washing of dishes or clothing in the bathrooms. NO pets in the bathroom.

Playground  -  Playground opens at 9 am after quiet time and closes at dusk.   

Trash Disposal  -  Please deposit all trash in the dumpster located at the entrance to the campground.  The dumpster is locked nightly at 8 pm due to animal activity.  Please do not leave food or garbage out overnight, keep all food or garbage locked in your camper or vehicle.  Woodland creatures like bears and raccoons are attracted to left out food and garbage.  We don’t want you to find a surprise night visitor at your site!  We are not responsible for damages caused by wild animals.

Recycling - We recycle aluminum, glass and plastic Michigan beverage containers.  Plastic trash cans clearly labeled for these items are outside the shower building and next to the dumpster.  Please be good stewards of the earth and participate in our efforts in recycling these items.

 Fireworks and Firearms  -  Fireworks and firearms are strictly prohibited in our park. This includes sparklers, smoke bombs, aerials, and firecrackers. The prohibiting of firearms includes all guns including air soft, BB, and pellet guns. 

General  -  We are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged articles. Anyone who removes, destroys, alters or tampers with campground property, including but not limited to: trees, plants, fixtures, signs, posters, displays, etc., will be responsible for restitution.

Safety and Emergencies  -  Emergency phone numbers are posted in the restroom/shower building.  Cell phone coverage is very patchy here but we are available on-site 24/7 for any emergencies.  Please call 906-885-5324 after hours for emergencies only.  There is also an after hours landline phone available at the AmericInn Motel, two miles east in Silver City.  If you need to call 911 for any reason, and time allows, please call the office so the maintenance staff can be prepared to escort the emergency personnel to your site.

We recognize the importance of accesssibility and are committed to making our campground welcoming to all guests.  Our facilities were originally built in 1972 and do not currently meet ADA standards.  However, we are actively exploring feasible improvements and offer portable accessibility aids, such as shower chairs, upon request.  If you have specific accessibility needs or questions, please contact us in advance so we can do our best to accommodate you.

General Liability

I, my children and everyone in my party, agree to abide by the Park Rules, including those rules and policies published at www.unionrivercampground.com, posted at the Premises or otherwise communicated in any manner by Union River Big Bear Campground.

I HEREBY RELEASE, WAIVE, DISCHARGE AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE Union River Big Bear Campground LLC, its owners and agents, from any and all liability to me, my children, my invitees/guests, personal representatives, and heirs for any loss or damage on account of injury to person (including death) or loss or damage to property relating to, or arising out of, use and occupancy of the Union River Big Bear Campground, grounds and facilities, (collectively, the Premises) and any dangers and hazards associated with acts of nature such as changing weather conditions; high winds; thunder and lightning; temperature fluctuations; falling trees; tree limbs, ice; or encounters with wildlife.

I HEREBY AGREE TO INDEMNIFY, SAVE AND HOLD HARMLESS Union River Big Bear Campground’s Management, and each of them, from any loss, liability, damage or cost (including attorney fees) they may incur due to injury (including death), damage or loss of property relating to use of the Premises by me, my children, and/or my invitees/guests or due to any incidents that may occur during my stay. I understand that, although Union River Big Bear Campground makes every reasonable effort to provide a secure environment, the security of my person, my belongings, and all persons registered in my party is my sole responsibility.

As a courtesy, our employees, if so requested, may assist with directing you to your designated campsite. It is your sole responsibility to ensure that the site will accommodate your specific trailer/RV and that you will not hit any branches, bollards, trees, etc. when positioning your RV on the campsite. You agree to indemnify and hold Union River Big Bear Campground, its owners and agents (collectively, Union River Big Bear Campground’s Management”) harmless from any loss, liability, damage or cost (including attorney’s fees) that may result from an employee assisting or directing you onto a campsite. Furthermore, you release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue Union River Big Bear Campground’s Management for any and all liability, loss, or property damage relating to an employee assisting/directing you to your site.

I understand that I am and remain personally liable to pay the total amount of my reservation prior to my scheduled check-in date, or at such earlier date communicated to me.  If I fail to pay the total due, I agree that Union River Big Bear Campground, LLC may charge any remaining balance (in addition to any damage charges, additional fees or other amounts owed under these Terms and Conditions) to any credit or debit card on file with my reservation. Any amounts due after 30 days will be subject to the maximum late charge permitted under state law.

The Premises are privately owned and THE UNION RIVER BIG BEAR CAMPGROUND’S MANAGEMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE to anyone for any reason except for those prohibited by law. Union River Big Bear Campground’s Management reserves the right to require any person or party it deems necessary, to leave the campground based on violations of Park Rules or behavior that management deems inappropriate or disturbing to others. Harassment or mistreatment of our staff or other guests, including but not limited to, racist comments or hate speech, will not be tolerated under any circumstances. I have read this notice and agree to it as well as all Union River Big Bear Campground’s Park Rules and Regulations. In addition, I understand that I am responsible for the actions of all persons registered in my party, including any children, and any guests that visit during my stay. On behalf of each person in my party, I grant Union River Big Bear Campground and its affiliated entities and promotional partners the right to include any photographic, video and other visual portrayals of each person in my party in any medium and for any purpose.

Animal Waiver

I hereby agree to the following regulations and conditions relating to my pet(s) while camping at Union River Big Bear Campground with my dog.

  • Excluded Areas. I agree to keep my pet(s) out of the following areas including, but not limited to, the office, bathroom/shower building and playground.
  • Excluded Dogs. I agree that the Campground has the sole discretion to exclude dogs. The basis for exclusion may include, but is not limited to the following: breed-specific exclusions; due to their young age are exempted from state or local law vaccination requirements; are sick; are in heat; are aggressive, vicious, dangerous or potentially dangerous; require muzzling; or are easily frightened or sensitive, resulting in disruptive behavior (such as fighting or biting) in response to a stimulus.
  • Supervision. I agree to keep my dog on a leash or in a carrier while in all areas of the Campground. I further agree to have my dog with me or a designated individual at all times, and understand that I may not leave the dog unattended at the campsite. I agree to prevent noise or any other disturbance by my dog, in the interest of other guests at the Campground.
  • Vaccinations. I represent and warrant that my dog is up to date on all vaccinations (including rabies and distemper) and flea treatments.
  • Disturbances. I agree that, should my dog create any disturbances, which cause complaints to be made to the management by other guests or employees of the Campground, at the request of a Campground employee, I will immediately make arrangements to house my dog elsewhere outside the Campground. Additionally, I understand and agree that if I do not find alternative housing for my pet after being asked to do so, I will be asked to leave the Campground and will not be issued a refund.
  • Assumption of Risk and Release. I understand that my permission to have my dog at the Campground with me is a privilege and not a contractual right. Such permission is expressly conditional upon my adherence to the terms of these rules and other rules in effect at any given time. I understand that the Campground may revoke such permission at any time for any reason. Additionally, I hereby assume all responsibility of risks, injury, damage, other harm that may occur while my dog is at the Campground or caused by my dog. Further, I hereby knowingly and voluntarily expressly release and discharge the Campground, its owner, its agents, its parent companies, members, managers, directors, officers and employees (“Released Parties”) from any and all claims, damages, liabilities, injuries, demands, or causes of action, both present and future, whether known, unknown, anticipated or unanticipated, that me or my guests or invitees may have against any of the Released Parties arising out of or incident to my dog’s presence in the Campground, whether arising from any act or omission, whether negligent or otherwise, of me, my dog and/or any guest or invitee. I further agree to indemnify each of the Released Parties for any and all such claims, damages, liabilities, injuries, demands, or causes of action, including costs, expenses, and attorney’s fees arising as a result of or related to the presence of the dog at the Campground. This provision shall be enforceable to the fullest extent of the law.
  • Acknowledgment. By signing below, I acknowledge that I have read the foregoing Assumption of Risk & Release and fully understand its provisions and implications. My execution of this Release is entirely voluntary and intended to be binding on my heirs, executors, legal representatives and assigns.

I have read this Animal Waiver and understand it is my responsibility to abide by the Rules. I further understand that it is my responsibility to ensure that my guests and invitees also comply with the Rules. Failure to adhere to the policies and rules set forth herein may result in my removal from the Campground without a refund.

Management reserves the right to change these Terms & Conditions at any time without prior notice.  To help protect against new scams and evolving threats, management may update these Terms & Conditions as needed, without prior notice.  These adjustments allow us to respond quickly to minimize risk and loss.
