Goldfield was once the largest town in Nevada. Soon after finding gold in 1902, the town was established and boomed to 20,000! By 1912, most of the gold had been mucked out and the miners moved on. Today, Goldfield is a burgeoning art community full of independent characters. Its home to the International Car Forest and the Saint Barbara Grotto. Goldfield Miners Camp is located in the center of the historic district. Easy walking distance photo opportunities and local businesses. Goldfield makes for a UNIQUE stop halfway between Reno and Las Vegas, or those traveling to and from Yosemite, San Francisco, or Los Angeles.

Although this overnight stay was totally self serve, it suited our needs. Reservation and payment was all online. We were told our site number at time of booking and just pulled in. The site was barebones gravel, but level and provided the services we needed. The best part of the whole stay was the walk around town to see a “living ghost town”. I was able to talk to a couple working in their yard and learn more about the town. There were no businesses open (probably because it was Monday), but we had no need for anything. The town has tremendous possibilities and the new Canadian mining operations might help to reinvigorate the town. There is definitely a sense of hope you can feel. Lots of historic buildings and a wonderful walking tour with brass numbered plaques on them.
