About

Situated on West French Drive, Prairie Cree Park is four miles west of U.S. 41 and one and six-tenths miles east of State Road 63, making it accessible from either highway. The park is a multipurpose park. Its distinctive feature is a beautiful grove of old growth sugar maple trees, that in the fall of the year, turn to brilliant golden yellows, reds, and oranges. Within the park, you'll discover one long, moderate, continuous trail winds in and about the grounds with numerous access points. A small family graveyard sits on a hilltop, undisturbed in the woods on the east side of the park. On its south border, Prairie Creek Park adjoins a 13.4 acre lake. At the front of the park is a small 1.8 acre pond. Channel catfish, large mouth bass, redear sunfish, bluegill, and black crappie can be found in these bodies of water. The campground has approximately 40 modern sites. The campground is divided into two sections, one much smaller than the other. A modern shower house, restrooms, and dump station are available to campers. It's time to explore the magic of Prairie Creek Park!

    Gather the family and head on out to Prairie Creek Park for our Family Camping Weekend! From our newly designed disc golf course to our hiking trails, fishing ponds, playground, and more, Prairie Creek Park is the perfect camping spot for the whole family! See below for the list of scheduled events for the weekend: 10-2 PM - Family Fishing Derby hosted by Terre Hope o 10 – 2PM o $5/person o Plus $5 optional lunch (includes burger, chips, and drink) o Trophies & prizes for the biggest fish and most fish caught by age group ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 PM - Family Hike in the Elliott Woods Join the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department for a family hike at Prairie Creek Park! This hike is part of our Family Camping Weekend. We will meet at the Elliott Woods Head Trail and do a 1.5 mile hike along the wooded trail. Be sure to bring water and dress accordingly! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 9PM - Family Movie Night We will be showing Zootopia 2 in the Prairie Creek Park Baseball Field. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, family, and friends for a showing of Disney’s Zootopia 2 on the big outdoor screen! Admission is FREE!   • Terre Hope Family Fishing Derby

    July 11

    Join us for the first annual Terre Hope Fishing Derby! Saturday, July 11th from 10:00-2:00 at the front pond of Prairie Creek Park. (Rain or shine). There will be an entry fee of only $5 with an optional additional $5 for lunch which will include burger, chips, and drink. Trophies and prizes will be awarded: Biggest Fish and Most Fish Caught for two age groups: 0-17 and 18+.

  • Family Hike in the Elliott Woods

    July 11

    Join the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department at 4 PM for a family hike at Prairie Creek Park! This hike is part of our Family Camping Weekend. We will meet at the Elliott Woods Head Trail and do a 1.5 mile hike along the wooded trail. Be sure to bring water and dress accordingly!
