Oh…boy. Reserved and checked in via camp spot. We needed a stopover site between destinations and this fit that for a quiet remote spot. Arrived the camp which is very remote (perfect) with our truck and trailer that can accommodate terrain. Came in slowly as to get our bearings and it’s very poorly marked and signed. Noted a self check in back up a side road but was committed to the road ahead, and had checked in online so wasn’t priority. Made a full pass on the river edge road lined with permanent shacks to the and turned up finally to seek or spot. We were the only traveling unit in the park for the night. Found the reserved spot which was situated on a side hill in the full late afternoon sun (87 degrees). Parked to assess and walked to the marked rests rooms and office. Restrooms were now storage bins of old doors and the office didn’t look like a body had been in it for a decade or so. Never encountered a single person associated with running the place. Walked back to our rig and made the executive decision to move across the road to a flat shaded area with a pad and settle in. I just had back surgery so the burden of set up was on my spouse. 30 amp service was nailed to a dead tree and the lines held up with old plastic ropes…no power. 120V had juice and we have a smaller air unit so minus running anything else we could cool enough to sleep. With the bathroom and shower situation out of service since 1970 something we had to break out our emergency poo bucket and make do. AM next morning we walked to the river which is nice, ran the dog and cleaned up a little minus any showers. Again, never encountered a sole that worked there. Packed up and the second I sat in the drivers seat to start the truck a woman in a golf cart rolled up and started a string of lies that was nearly entering. “You blew right past me when you flew in” “I came to your unit 3 times to catch you” “You never came to the office” “You’re in the wrong spot” “Who are you” When I said we had checked in online I got a fully blank stare, oblivious to my name or reservations….out of exactly zero other out of town units. “So, you’re only one night?” She tried to dial it back but dropped to many lies and ignorances to be saved. Its a royal shit hole with a nice river and sketchy Deliverance banjo vibe.
