Camp Swatara Rules

Camp Swatara has been providing camping, retreats, and programs since 1943. Our
goal is to provide opportunities in this natural setting for persons of all ages to grow in
their relationship with Jesus Christ, so that they may give their lives to Him in total
discipleship. To ensure that every guest has this opportunity, guests must agree to
these terms and conditions for participation in the camp.

1. All posted rules and staff directions must be followed.
2. Controlled Substances: Camp Swatara is a tobacco, drug, and alcohol-free
environment. No tobacco, vaping, drugs, or alcoholic beverages are permitted
anywhere on the camp property.
3. Quiet Hours: Quiet time is enforced between the hours of 10pm and 7am daily.
During these hours, public buildings are closed. At all times, guests are expected to
maintain respectful levels of noise and may be asked to quiet down for the comfort
of other guests even during hours outside of these times.
4. Animals: Most buildings, the retreat center, and the splash pad are off limits to
animals other than certified service animals. Dogs are permitted in the Family
Camping Center, but must be kept on a 6-foot leash. Owners are responsible for
cleaning up after their animals.
5. Dress Code: Christian modesty in matters of dress is expected and will be enforced
at all areas of camp, including at the pool.
6. Fires and Firewood: Fires must only be lit in approved spaces, including fire rings,
which must not be moved. No outside firewood may be brough onto camp, and no
trees may be cut on camp property. Fires must be fully extinguished before guests
leave the fire’s location.
7. Vehicles: Camp Swatara is a pedestrian-first camp. Use of vehicles is strongly
discouraged across all camp areas. All vehicles, including bicycles during bicycling
hours, must observe all speed limits (10mph across the camp) and yield to
pedestrians. Vehicles are not permitted on the road next to the Fellowship Hall on
Sunday mornings during worship.
Transporting persons in non-passenger vehicles, including in the back of trucks or in
wagons not equipped with seats, is prohibited. Guests are not permitted to drive
across Camp Swatara other than during arrival and departure unless they have
received permission.
8. Parking: Family camp sites only have one parking space per site. Additional parking
spaces are available at designated locations as marked on the map. Park in
designated spaces only.
9. Bicycles: Bicycles are permitted between Saturday and Thursday (not Friday or
Sunday) from 8am until dusk. Bikers under the age of 12 must wear an appropriately

sized helmet designed for biking activities. All older bikers are strongly encouraged
to wear helmets.
10. Golf Carts and Other Personal Transportation: Other than the vehicles and
bicycles referenced above, personal vehicles or modes of transportation, including
but not limited to skateboards, longboards, mountain boards, skates, scooters,
hoverboards, electric or gas-powered bicycles, mini-bikes, ATVS, or golf carts, are
not permitted on the camp without written permission.
11. Aquatics: Use of Camp Swatara watercraft and swimming pool is only permitted as
scheduled by camp staff and when supervised by certified personnel. Children must
be supervised by adults whenever participating in aquatics at Camp Swatara,
including when playing at the creek, lake, pool, or splash pad. Private, non-
motorized, watercraft may be brought by guests after completing a Private Boat Use
Form. SCUBA diving, swimming lessons, and watercraft instructions are all
prohibited without written permission.
12. Fishing Regulations: All people over the age of 16 must have a current license on
their person before fishing or angling for any species of fish. All fishing is catch and
release at Camp Swatara.
13. Drones: Camp Swatara prohibits the operation and use of any drones, excluding the
Mini Flyer “toy” drones from the Camp Store, on or over camp property without
written permission.
14. Damaged Camp Property: Guests must report any damage to Camp Swatara
property, including any property that presents a hazard, to camp staff. Writing on or
defacing camp property is strictly prohibited. Guests will be charged for willful or
negligent damages.
15. Trash and Clean Up: Guests are responsible for cleaning up after themselves. All
trash must be properly disposed of in appropriate receptacles or packed out with
guests when they leave.
16. Weapons: Guests are prohibited from bringing weapons, including but not limited to
firearms, ammunition, bows and arrows, and explosives (including fireworks,
firecrackers, sparklers, and noise makers) to Camp Swatara without written
permission. Camp tools, such as pocketknives, hatchets, and cooking utensils, when
used in a safe manner for their intended purpose, are not considered weapons for
the purpose of this policy.

To ensure that all guests have the best opportunity to grow in their relationship to Jesus
Christ at Camp Swatara, all guests must sign this form to signify that they agree to the
rules. The group leader may sign this form to acknowledge their responsibility for all
other guests in the group. Failure by any member of a group to adhere to these rules
may result in the cancellation of the entire group reservation.

Be aware that by entering Camp Swatara property, you consent to being photographed
and having that photograph used for promotional purposes, and you release Camp
Swatara from all liability of any nature. If you do not wish to be subjected to the

foregoing, talk to a camp staff member.

Camp Swatara reserves the right to evict anyone who fails to comply with these rules.
Camp Swatara does not provide on-site first aid or emergency care to guests.
Camp Swatara is not responsible for damage or loss to personal property.
