Dumont Lake Family Campground — Reviews

Did the online check in. Never saw anyone from the office at all. A kindly camper was good enough to explain where our site was and where the garbage . bathrooms could be found. Very quiet camping but also early in the season.

We had a good stay. The only reason for a 4 and not a 5 star rating is because the primitive camp sites were pretty muddy, especially after the rain. Overall it was a great stay, very clean bathrooms and showers. And it was very beautiful.

The sites weren't very large and felt very cramped. Nearly all of the campground is seasonal and you can tell by the quality of the sites. The fire ring was tiny! I didn't measure but I highly doubt it was more than 18 inches. Most of my wood was too long to fit in. If I had remembered my cooking grate it would have been way too big. The bathroom was very nice and clean, but not ADA accessible. It worked for us but several of my family members would have been in trouble. The playground area was amazing, however very far from the day camping sites and had all the seasonals been in I wouldn't have had line of site.

The campground I chose online were flooded when we got there, but I was able to switch sites. We had a few issues getting info on water sources from the owner. However, it was a nice area and good experience

The campground is mostly occupied with rigs parked for the entire season. Nothing against the set up but, not a relaxing place to “camp.” Our major gripe is NO Wi-Fi even though Campspot includes it as an amenity. We also had minimal cell phone service and we needed to connect the night we stayed. Uggggg From now on we will always double check with a phone call to make sure the Campspot information is correct.

So disappointing. In progression, when we arrived in the early evening, nobody was in the office to check in with. I had to look carefully at our reservation email to find an obscure number that I figured must be our site number. Later we noticed a small box near the office labeled “Arrivals,” in which we found a vehicle window sticker with our last name and site number on it. There was a phone number to call if nobody was in the office, but it didn’t say what for (emergencies only? checking in? simple questions?). It wasn’t till the second day that I decided to call and figure out where to get firewood (they were selling it for a whopping $10/bundle!) and how to buy the ice they had for sale in front of the office. At least they delivered it all! Apparently, only one person runs the whole campground, so you had to call the number just to get a hold of her. Next, we had to park our camper in the middle of our site and run our 30 amp cord all the way across the site just so it could reach the outlet which was located way at the front of the site. It was so frustrating that we almost turned around and went home. Nights were far from peaceful as the bright light from the office building was shining in our eyes the whole night as we tried to sleep. Probably the worst part was the fact that about a quarter of the campground (including our site) was situated right along the main road, so the ridiculously loud pickups, dune buggies, dirt bikes, and gas powered golf carts interrupted literally about every conversation at intervals of roughly 10-20 seconds. And it didn’t fail that every night around 1am, someone flew by honking their horn loudly to wake us up! The bathrooms were only mediocre, as well, with only two showers each (with mildewed curtains) and no mirrors in the mens room, as they chose modern faucet fixtures and subway tiled walls over the practicality of mirrors. On a positive note, we were pleased that they had a few decent activities like a free pig roast for everybody and inflatables for the kids. Not sure if this was the norm or just a Labor Day weekend thing. The kids also enjoyed the ponds and swimming in the lake. All in all, we have been to quite a few campgrounds (state parks & private ones) all over Michigan, and this was hands down the worst experience we’ve ever had. We will not be returning.

Always a great stay at Dumont Lake Family Campground. Really clean, pet-friendly. Great neighbors. Even with the rain, we had a blast.

Amazing camp ground with so many things for kids to do. Paddle boarding, fishing, swimming, playground, basketball, etc. Primitive sites are wooded and mostly very private. Bathrooms were recently updated and very clean. We’ll be back!!

Beautiful lake and quiet campground! Bathrooms were very nice as well. Absolutely loved it here!

Definitely a hidden gem! Husband and i came down from Traverse City, but im from Maine, and camped every summer, and this is definitely one of the great campgrounds I've visited. We got a rustic lot right next to the fishing ponds, and it was great. We brought a mesh tent for eating, and it kept the abundant evening bugs away, but the site was quiet, spacious, and beautiful. Definitely will visit again!

Everything was pretty great. We camped with kids and our spot wasn't very kid friendly. When there's a fast road and a broken up fence between your toddler and running into the road, it's not a great situation.

Private beach allowed dogs, was fantastic. A little cramped but the bathrooms were great. Showers were not great, but didn't ruin the rating. Looking at that cramped public beach and only having 4 or 5 of us on the private beach made it all worthwhile.
