Gorge Base Camp — Reviews

Great campground with well maintained grounds. Public areas and restrooms were very clean. Road noise was minimal. Thanks for a great stay.

This is a beautiful park conveniently located to use as your base camp to explore. The facilities were excellent and well kept. The full hookup sites were nicely situated and easy to access. The gal in the office was super friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!

Facilities, campsites, cleanliness deserve a higher rating, but cannot give one due to overall experience. Location is very loud by the entrance to the bridge to Hood River and many trains so close the tent shook, but that was known going in and not a justification for a 1 star review. The reason for 1 sta is the most inhospitable host I have encountered in 50 years of every kind of accomodations from primitive camping to the finest 5 star hotels in many states and countries. (I don't know if the person was host/proprietor or employee). I do want to say that I did have a part in it and I own that. I am on a 1000+ mile solo bicycling trip. I got in around 6PM. I tried to check in online using the QR code on the info board. I was unable to complete the transaction because of an infinite loop that would not allow me to proceed to the next step. Because I had a 7PM commitment, and it was raining, I pitched my tent without checking in onlline, knowing I would and thinking it would not be a big deal because I left my tent and belongings, so clearly I intended to pay. I clearly know that somehow someway paying before I left is the way it is done. There was no other way to pay than online, no cash box, check, or any other alternative. Well the 7PM meeting did not go so well because of the absolutely hostile, obnoxious, angry, persistent, non stop texts. I apologized repeatedly and said I understood and assured her of payment.. She argued with me about the site looping issue. I tried again during the meeting with the same result and sent screenshots. I would not have responded to her texts, dbut she sounded so wound up that I feared for my tent and belongings. I finally, during the meeting, was able to pay with Safari instead of Chrome. I was courteous the entire time and nothing would calm her down. It was very uncomfortable to go back to camp. I would avoid this place at all costs although there are almost no choices in the area.

Excellent location! Clean facilities. The manager loaned us a guide book (Curious Gorge) which proved very helpful in finding some new hikes. The author is amusing and very informative. Thanks Base Camp! We'll be back!

High price The most expensive place I’ve stayed

The facilities are excellent, but having a train come through every half hour, right next to your camper was very annoying.

Everything was clean and the park was very neat in appearance. We had a small problem (my fault) with our reservation, and the situation was handled professionally and with great concern for our satisfaction. Great job! We will be back!

Greet showen and toilets. Noisy because of train and traffic.

Everything was great except the fact that we were right below the highway. In the early morning, those very loud trucks accelerating right above us were so disturbing!

The management was very friendly and helpful. Always clean bathroom and laundry room. The tent area was shady with water right near. Thank you so much we spent a week there.
