Gorge Base Camp — Reviews

Base camp is always clean and most important clean. Lot's of trains, but it didn't hinder our Thanksgiving day mini vacation. Plenty of good food and cold beverages within a mile or 2.

I’ll start with the good; bathrooms very clean, well kept grounds. Bad: trains went all day and night, every 2 hours and they were within 20 yards of the back row ( the $80 spaces). Nothing mentioned in description on website about excessive trains. Also, no view of river because of trees, site 13. No way to go to the river at all. Started mowing our site and moving our picnic table by 10:30, check out wasn’t until noon.

Great location for surrounding outdoor activities. Clean and organized private campground. Will be back in the future.

It was nice, clean and no issues. Trains were a bit crazy. Definitely hard to get a good night sleep.

RV Park was well maintained, paved, super clean, hosts very accommodating, sites have shade with grass. Only downside is location on busy highway as well as train tracks right next to park. Noise from traffic was pretty steady and loud.

My dog and I (basically my dog) loved your dog run. He fetched balls until he dropped. It was beautiful. The sites were very nice, very clean. Next time will bring ear plugs for the trains, though they were not that noisy, but I’m a light sleeper. Would definitely stay again.

Everything was up to par.

Great management, clean facilities, friendly atmosphere, but if you’re camping in a tent, you better be OK with trains passing by regularly. At night, the approaching train shakes the ground, the whistle blows, and it feels like the trains are gonna come right through your tent. We only lasted one night.

Friendly accommadation. Nicely shaded areas for tenting. Great facillities. Close to White Salmon and Hood River.

We had a very favorable site although others were squeezed in.

We enjoyed our stay. Our site was level and paved. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Restrooms, showers and laundry all clean and well-maintained. Only complaint was traffic noise from highway.

I'm only giving this rating due to the way I was spoken to by the lady who returned my call when I realized that the wrong dates were reserved. We did not actually get to stay there. I had made a reservation, I thought for July, but turns out I mistakenly put June. I got an email confirmation for my reservation and I looked at it quickly and it did not show the date I reserved in the body of the email. At the bottom of the email is told me to follow a link to view my reservation information. Anyhow, I missed that. I called to let them know I realized I made a mistake and immediately the lady on the phone got very defensive as if I was accusing her of making the mistake. I clearly stated that I had made a mistake and wanted to see what may be done to fix it. She continued to be rude to me and pretty much shamed me for making a mistake. She claims she tried to call me when I did not show up on the first day, I had no missed calls and she did not leave me a voicemail. My phone had no problem receiving other calls or voicemails at that time. She did not give me any options to fix it and no dates in July were available. I was charged the full amount of my stay. I just feel she could have been a little kinder and sympathetic on the phone, instead of shaming me and being defensive as if I was accusing her. I know it was my mistake and I called as soon as I realized it (on the 2nd day of the reservation) I called to let them know. I also asked if she recommended any other RV parks in the area, which other places have been very helpful in providing me that information when they don't have availability, and even then, she pretty much told me good luck, you're not going to find anything now it too late in a rude/shaming voice. This place may be a nice place to stay, but I really don't know. I just hope the lady I spoke to was just having a bad day and doesn't talk to all people that way.

Facility was super clean and the staff quite helpful

Only thing missing was an outside grill …. Otherwise absolutely wonderful and relaxing place to spend a few days!
