I spent a week at Mountaineer Campground this summer with my wife and youngest daughter. This trip to the Smoky Mountains was our daughter’s present after graduating from high school. We have nothing but great things to say about the place! Stacy and Markoe take fantastic care of the grounds and facilities, and they are just wonderful people. Their puppy Zeus was a joy to be around too and he is so well behaved! We don’t have an RV, but we were camping out of a Tesla Model Y and a 10x12 tent, which is quickly becoming our favorite way to explore new places after trying it out for the first time earlier this year in the Branson area as well, after we bought our tent. Our tent has a porthole that slips over the rear hatch of the car and straps to the wheels to create a tunnel (not a perfect seal but good enough), with an air mattress designed for the Model Y’s backseat and trunk area, another twin air mattress for the tent, and plenty of storage space in the tent. During the day we could just unhook the tent from the car, zip it up, and go about our day to drive around and explore. Connecting and disconnecting only took a few minutes. We were able to plug in to the campsite power source with the car in Tesla’s Camp Mode to keep DC 12V power and USB ports on along with climate control all night to keep the car and tent at a comfortable temperature for everyone. We had originally booked a tent site with 30A electric power because our Tesla Mobile Connector for charging has a maximum supported current of 32A and we have a TT-30 adapter for it, but I forgot that the 30A power is only served up at 110V, so this only gets you effectively double the charging speed of what you would get on a household 15-20A circuit, so after accounting for the climate control being on all night, we only added about 15% to our battery overnight on our first night. To be clear, we could have made that work, but we would have also needed to rely on the Tesla Supercharger in Pigeon Forge (or one of the other nearby cities) every day and spend maybe an extra $10-20/day just to play it safe and cover our normal driving around since we did a lot of it and had a lot of places we wanted to explore. If we never drove anywhere, it wouldn’t have mattered at all, because we were energy positive on shore power. So we asked Stacy and Markoe if they had any sites with the 50A (which is a 240V power delivery, and we had our NEMA 14-50 adapter with us as well), and they graciously accommodated us at another site for the remainder of our stay since they were able to, and we just paid the upgrade difference, which was about the same cost as using the Superchargers to make sure we were ok on driving energy, but without the uncertainty or inconvenience. We had a full battery to start every day. It rained at least a little bit almost every day we were there. Some days more than others, but nothing excessive. Our tent fared well against the rain though. We had some rips in the floor we had patched from our March trip before we came out, and thankfully those held. I mentioned to Markoe that we would probably pick up a hose at a dollar store or something so we could properly hose off our equipment before we rolled out, and he said, no don’t worry about that, you can borrow an RV hose from us. So that was really nice and helped us pack our tent and ground tarp away at least a lot cleaner than they would have been otherwise. These are the sorts of experiences you never get from staying in a hotel. We loved every bit of it. We will happily return and spend more time here when we get the chance!

It was a well run campground. Kids loved the pool while my husband and I enjoyed the river in the back of the park. It was close enough to everything we wanted to see and still not be overwelmed. It was quiet at night and in walking distance to a few places. We would definitley go here again.
