Watauga Dam Campground — Reviews

So peaceful and the campground managers work hard to keep the park at its best !

It was a great location. The host and people that were visiting were very friendly inviting and the atmosphere was spot on beautiful scenery, as well as peaceful and quaint.

The river seam to be full of a muck that had the appearance of guts. The ground around my campsite was covered in geese droppings. I mentioned this to the grounds people, but they didn’t do anything to clean it up.

Site next to dump station and we rarely had a fresh air moment. Otherwise- ok

Watauga Dam Campground is one of our favorites. It's always peaceful and quiet and you can count on it feeling cooler during the summer due to the water coming out of Watauga Lake.

Like an oasis away from the world. The limited spots and excellent staff ensure a great community feel to share the water and the facilities.

We love this campground and our campsite was great. It may need a new faucet tho, we weren’t able to get a good connection. The staff is also very kind and helpful. The scenery is beautiful and it was wonderful to be cool when everywhere else was boiling.

The grounds were well kept and the views exceptional. The water was so cold it helped to things down. I want to go back again and again!

Overall the campground is great! Would like to have some cell service and WiFi but it’s understandable because of the secluded location. Also I wish everyone would keep their dogs on a leash per campground rules. They may be well trained but if they were to come near mine when they are off the leash, then that would not end well. No need for that stress just because people don’t follow that rule.

The campground is clean and the grounds are well kept. The staff is accommodating and very friendly. I love to camp here.

Beautiful location, great for fishing. Quiet, well maintained, good staff. Only drawback, maybe, No signal of any kind. You have to go up 2 miles to top of mountain to get signal. There are day facilities and picnic areas there. It is also where the Appalachian Trail goes thru.

We arrived late, but all of our documents were ready to go. Sites are beautiful, with super-easy access to the water for our kayaks. Our site was also perfectly level, which meant setting up our teardrop was very fast. Clean bathrooms with hot water and showers.

The campground is well kept and quiet, just what I need to unwind.
