I wish I could say we had a good stay. From the reviews and amenities I thought it would be great. But our stay turned out terrible for my family.
This was my family’s first time renting an RV and taking a trip. We decided to do so over Christmas instead of presents, because presents just end up broken or not played with almost immediately after being opened. It’s still a lot of fun, but we also decided to start making memories, I’ve got stage 4 breast cancer and 4 kids. So it seemed like planning a trip over the Christmas break to Disney was a better idea.
To avoid driving too long each day, I set up camp spots ahead of time. I was told I needed to so I wouldn’t go without someplace to park the RV each night. I also got a good sam membership and the first place that was close to where we wanted to stop driving was midway campground.
During booking, they charged like 50 a night, but added this “don’t lose your spot, pay this fee!” Pop up of $40 on the online form. I thought if I didn’t pay the $40 as well we could lose our booking, again because we have never had anything to do with RV travel in the past. So I clicked the $40 button to add it to my booking. This wouldn’t have been so bad, if we wouldn’t have had such a awful experience at the campground. We ended up checking in late. Since I had no idea what to do in these situations, I tried calling about 45 minutes before they closed. We got voicemail. I left a voicemail letting them know we were going to be late and asking them to please call me so I knew what to do since we were coming in late. Lo and behold they never called when we got there there was a box it said late check-ins. But there was absolutely nothing in the box. Luckily, I had received a receipt that told us our lot number but when we went to try to find our lot, we had no gate code, and the gate would not raise. We were sitting at the gate 10 o’clock at night having no idea what to do. We turned around and went back to the check-in area where I tried knocking loudly on the door, because it looked like someone could live in or around the check in area. Nobody came. I called over and over. Nobody answered. I began walking around the outside of the campground in the woods and pitch dark and luckily found a back entrance but it was almost too small for an RV. But we had to try it. So slowly we got into the park, found our spot, hooked up and then left in the morning.
I have since requested the manager call me and sent emails about this, because in the least, I should not be charged as much as I was for what I got. I found out the $40 charge was to reserve the exact spot not to make sure we had a spot. So I paid 85 dollars for the terrible experience we had. The manager hasn’t responded to emails or attempted to call back. It just seems there’s a lack of concern for their campers.
