I’ll start by saying I travel full time as a photographer, so I just need a few basics as I don’t spend a lot of time at the campground. I look for level pull thru sites as I’m by myself except for my cat, clean hot showers, sewer or a dump station, decent roads, and pet friendly. This place failed on almost all counts. I think this is an older couple who’s bitten off more than they can chew. There are good size full hookups, but I was staying a week, and none were available. I had a choice of 2 partial hookup sites, both narrow and surrounded by trees and some large rocks. I was never able to get it quite level. They only have 2 showers. In one the light was out, and the other was dirty and did not drain properly. The cutesy decor does make up for it not being clean. The roads are all dirt and rock and not maintained. Those in the area I was in, site 6, were more like worn down paths than roads and were especially difficult to find at night. Their dump station was inoperable due, according to the owner, someone clogging it with diapers. Since this was mentioned in a previous review a month before the idea of repairing it or finding an alternative escapes them. She did offer to let me use one of the pull thrus when I left, but that would have necessitated driving the incredibly bumpy exit road twice, and I was already having to stop to resecure the stuff in my trailer. Yes, it’s that bumpy. They do allow pets, but mine likes to take walks (yes, you read that right;my cat is leash/harness trained), but there wasn’t any place other than just up and down the roads. I’d thought we could walk by the “fishing pond”. This is an algae and likely snake and leach infested pond with access to only a short distance. There’s a danger, no swimming sign. As we tend to walk in the evening the possibility of snakes as well as the multitude of Deet resistant bugs was a deterrent. Another issue was the amount of rusted old tractors and a boat, piles of wood, and used equipment at the pavilion and playgrounds that I’m not sure even Goodwill would accept. In fairness, it’s cheap and close to Bangor (not as close to Bar Harbor and Augusta due to traffic and slower speed roads), and if you could get one of the full hookup pull thrus it might be ok for a day or two, but definitely not a vacation destination. It’s also not family friendly. A woman and her 2 kids were exploring the bathhouse because they were bored.
