Starved Rock Family Campground — Reviews

Small site. When we arrived it was after 6:00 and luckily there was a young lady there to help us. No late check in was left for us; however, she couldn't have been any nicer and helped us out.

Nice quiet campground close to Starved Roc l and Matthiessen state parks.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Clean bathrooms/showers. Only a few minutes from the park. Only downside is the noise from the highway but it's not a deal breaker by any means. Power and water at every site that I saw.

It was pretty clean and well kept there.

Good but really annoying having trucks of Boy Scouts setting up at 8pm

We loved our stay. Everything was clean, and the staff was fantastic. The location to the state parks was wonderful. As they continue to develop the campground, it is only going to get better, and I'm sure it will become one of our favorites.

It was very reasonable and we had full hookups!

Very nice and helpful staff. The campground was very clean. I did like that they have garbage cans near all the sites and none of them were over flowing with garbage. Also a nice feature was after the office was closed they had someone going around to the sites with firewood if you wanted to purchase some. I did see that they will be adding more sites. We did drive around the whole campground and every site had room. All in all this is a very nice place to stay

Excellent staff. Very attentive. My family had such a great time.

Only one shower in the men's room had hot water, the other two were cold. Women's showers were both cold (and a third was shut off). The water smelled and tasted as though it was coming straight from the pool. Our site had an old fire pit that they halfway buried and left a hole right in the middle of it. The pool was alright, nothing special. Wifi was terrible. Couldn't get a signal unless I was right outside the "market". The second set of showers and the laundry were not in working order when we stayed. The wood we were sold was still super green and just wouldn't burn, so be aware. Garbage was constantly overflowing. Loud interstate noise, constantly. Could definitely be a nice place if they get it all figured out, but as it is now we won't be returning.

New owners at this location are really bringing it back to life. Not yet a destination campground but it’s great for when you’re in the area

The camp site and staff was so amazing. The site is close to stores in case you need items that you forgot and it’s 3 miles from Starved Rock Park.

Beautiful location, friendly people, very clean. Stayed in a tent. Will definitely stay again.

Beautiful location, friendly staff and nice pool area. I would recommend to any person that does not want to be in the middle of overflow and a lot of people at the state parks. We had space with great pull through and full hook up.
