Dan Nicholas Park itself is beautiful, but the campground is a bit run down. Looks like they're building a new bathhouse, but the existing one is very small for the number of camp sites and in need of some paint. Same with the cabins - kind of creepy - need to be painted and new curtains (I didn't see the inside) - this wouldn't cost a lot to do! My site still had garbage on the ground from prior camper(s) and had some poison ivy. Otherwise, the campsites are huge, highly wooded, peaceful and very private. A little elbow grease and more attentive camp hosts to tidy up sites and this would be an ideal destination at a great price.

What a beautiful campground. The sites are very spacious and under nice shade trees all the time. Only minor request, unfortunately, remove the trees by the dump station. The approach between the trees can make it difficult to get close to dump station.

Well water was pleasantly surprisingly good. Staff (Kitty) was very helpful with a map of salisbury and she pointed out the best route to the h e VA clinic RV sites are spaced well apart with heavily wooded area between the lake and your site...very private. The b ath house was old but clean and well maintained. A new bathhouse is under construction. WIFI was only available near the old bathhouse, so plan accordingly. Phone service was poor near my site 28. A vacation from electronic was quiet and peaceful! By the way, the bathhouse is airconditioned!!! I am planning a return visit in the fall!!

I think they need to clean up some trees. My friend got a broken windshield. The park didn’t give her any perks for this happening

While a nice shady campground the roads have ruts and pot holes, the area needs trees trimmed. I had to go back into the campground to dump my black tank and even had to drive thru trees, like columns, to get to dump station. Sites are hilly and many people needed to use blocks to help lever their RVs. We did enjoy the amenities like the carousel and such, but wish the train had been on line too.

The site itself was great, big with lots of shade and conveniently located close to the lake, the hiking trails and the amusement parks. But the administration is very strict. We understand that there are policies in place and we also understand why, but to patroll on a big holiday and rudely and unfriendly pull rank just seemed very over the top and takes the fun out of camping. Teh campground could be so awesome otherwise.

On the day of arrival I was plugging my camper into the 30 amp power service when it shorted out. Maintenance came to find burnt wires in the box from the previous occupants. We walked to the park the next day only to find there were only 2 wolves,1 eagle, and 2 vulchers in the zoo area. The rest of the animals had been removed. Our granddaughter needed to use the restroom only to find it one working toilet and the rest filled with poop. A few minutes later all the restrooms were closed for lack of water. We wanted to take our granddaughter to ride the carousel and it was closed due to a malfunction that caused the carousel to run out of control. OK so let's go ride the train. No train! We were told it had been removed. We were not informed of ANY of this upon arrival. NOT a very good experience!

We have stayed at this campground for six years now and this is the worst day we’ve ever had. It’s not mentioned anywhere that one of the bath houses has been completely destroyed and leveled. We woke up one morning to the entire camp flooded from a groundwater issue at a neighboring campsite. The actual park itself, which is one of the reasons that we go there has its issues as well. Carousel is broken. The train still broke for more than two years now the zoo that you have to pay to visit be at only a dollar but nonetheless still have to pay a dollar to see two eagles that don’t move an owl an alligator that doesn’t move a deer and a groundhog more than 60% of the cages and/or enclosures are empty. The splash pad didn’t work or wasn’t functioning. I’m really disappointed. The worst part is I booked a second trip before we even arrived and found out all of these issues and the park will not issue a refund. They can give me a rain check but no refund. I guess that’s my own fault for assuming that they were going to hold the standard they have for the previous number of years.

Underrated site. Great camping community and lots of flat surface for kids on wheels to play without running over everyone. Walking across the pond to all of the amenities available at the community park was such a lovely surprise. We will be back!
